THE RETURN OF AN ICON

The Return of the Harpy Eagle

A story of conservation and hope

For the second consecutive year, the Harpy Eagle has chosen the protected territory of the Kichwa Añangu Community to nest. Its return represents far more than an extraordinary wildlife encounter: it is evidence that a well-conserved forest can continue to provide refuge, food and the conditions required for one of the Amazon’s most emblematic raptors to reproduce.

The species depends on extensive areas of mature rainforest, large trees and healthy ecosystems. Its presence near Napo Wildlife Center reflects the community’s long-term commitment to forest protection, biodiversity conservation and a responsible tourism model designed to preserve this territory for future generations.

The first Harpy Eagle chick recorded at this nesting site — a symbol of community-led conservation in action.
